    • What is Baptism?

      • Holy Family Parish Baptisms

        Congratulations!
We are happy to have your child (newborn to 7 years old)* become the
newest member of Holy Family Parish.

There are 4 steps in the Baptism process:
        1. Register as a Parishioner
        2. Complete the online Baptism Registration
        3. Register for a Baptism Prep Class
        4. Schedule the Baptism

        1. Register as a Parishioner

To have your child baptized here at Holy Family Parish, you must be a member of the parish. If you are not a member of the parish, you can find a registration form here  The completed form can be returned to our Parish Office (Door #5); emailed to mvelazquez@holyfamilyshorewood.org; or placed in the collection basket at any one of our weekend Masses.

        2. Complete an online Baptism Registration

Once you have registered as a parishioner, please click here to register for the Sacrament of Baptism.

        3. Register for a Baptism Prep Class

After completing the online baptism registration, call the Parish Office to sign up for a Baptism Prep Class. All classes are held once a month on a Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

        4. Schedule the Baptism

Once you have competed the Baptism Prep Class, call the Parish Office to schedule the baptism.  Baptisms are held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 1:30 p.m. Please arrive by 1:15 p.m. the day of your baptism. Dates may change based on the liturgical calendar or holidays.

        Role of the Godparent(s)
The role of the Godparent is significant.  They are making a promist to assist the parents in raising the child in the Catholic faith. In order to fulfill this promise, the sponsor needs to provide a good example of living a Catholic life.  Please do not choose Godparents until you review the established Guidelines for Godparents below.

        Guidelines for Godparents:
        1.  There may be one Godfather, one Godmother, or one of each.
        2. If there are two godparents, one must male and female.
        3. Godparents must be at least 16 years old.
        4. Godparents must have been baptized, confirmed and received First Eucharist.
        5. They should be leading a life of faith in harmony with the duty they are undertaking.
        6. Must be actively registered at a Catholic parish.
        7. If Godparent(s) are not parishioners at Holy Family, a Baptism Sponsor letter will be required from their current parish stating they meet these requirements.
        8. They not be the father or the mother on the one to be baptized.

Please contact the Parish Office at (815) 725-6880 if you need further assistance.

*Children who are 7 years old or older,

        Director of Evangelization, Matthew Toohill:
